For we must needs die
2 Samuel 14 v 14
The most uncertain thing in life is life itself. The most certain thing about our lives is that we shall die, the verse above reminds us of that. Job said " I know that Thou wilt bring me to death, and to the house appointed for all living." As much as people would like to stop their death from happening, ultimately it is unavoidable. We are told in Ecclesiastes chapter 8 verse 8 " There is no man that hath power over the spirit to retain the spirit."
The strange thing is that while we prepare for things that are to come, how few prepare for death and facing the judgement of God, "It is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgement" (Hebrews 9 v 27). The student prepares for an exam by revising. A bride prepares for her wedding by buying a dress and having her hair done. The house buyer prepares for buying a house by arranging a mortgage and having a survey done. The government is trying to make preparations for when to lift the restrictions they have brought in. Have you prepared for death and facing God's righteous judgement, Amos 4 v 12 exhorts us to "Prepare to meet with God”? The only way we can be prepared for that meeting is by having all our sins against God forgiven. The only way that is ever going to happen is by receiving Jesus as your Lord and Saviour.
I read this on a gravestone a few years ago, we need to take note of what it says :
But quickly called me to my grave,
Oh, haste to Christ make no delay,
For no one knows their dying day."
