Peter describes the blood of Jesus as being precious (1 Peter 1 v 19). It most certainly is because His blood is that of God the Son in human flesh. How precious seeing it is the blood of the only one who was without sin. Judas said, "I have sinned in that I have betrayed innocent blood." It is precious blood for each believer in Christ because of what it does for us:
- It results in a believer being justified, declared righteous by God in Christ and therefore being saved from God's wrath which we deserve for our sins against God (Romans 5 v 9).
- It's precious because it washes away our sins (Revelation 1 v 5), cleansing us from all our sins (1 John 1 v 7).
- It's precious because through it we are forgiven our sins and also redeemed, delivered from sins penalty, power and presence. (Ephesians 1 v 7).
- It's precious because through it the believer has peace with God (Colossians 1 v 20).
- It's precious because through it we can prayerfully come into the presence of a holy God (Hebrews 10 v 19).
- It's precious for by it Christ purchased His church (Acts 20 v 28).
The question is, are you trusting in Christ's shed blood to save you a sinner, so the above 6 points are true of you? In the words of the hymn:
Have you been to Jesus for the cleansing power?
Are you washed in the blood of the lamb?
