The promise of God to Jacob and ultimately all believers in Christ.
Genesis 28 V 15
Jacob was on the run from his brother Esau. He now hated Jacob because he deceived his father into blessing him, when it ought to have been Esau he blessed. Jacob lies down to sleep on the ground with stones for a pillow. In his sleep he has a dream of a ladder on earth with its top reaching to heaven. In the dream Jacob saw angels going up and down the ladder.
The Lord stood above it telling Jacob He is the Lord God of Abraham, thy father, and the God of Isaac. God tells Jacob He would give him the land he was on. God also tells him a great nation would be descended from him, from it would come the Messiah/ Saviour through whom the families of the earth would be blessed. Then in v15. God gives promises to Jacob that are true for all believers in Christ. They are promises we always need to remember:
“I am with thee" - God's presence.
“And will keep thee" - God's preservation.
“And will bring thee" - God's guidance.
“For I will not leave thee" - God's faithfulness.
God finishes by saying, "I will do what I have spoken to thee of." God says something similar to all believers in Christ (Romans 8 v 29, 30).
