Ambition is quite a normal thing as we grow and develop. My ambition as a child at primary school was to play football for Everton football club. When a young teenager it was to run for the U.K in the Olympics. As I got a bit older being an air traffic controller, quickly followed by officer in R.A.F were my ambitions. I suppose the strongest ambition was to be a doctor in my last couple of years at grammar school. We can have many foolish or unfulfilled ambitions.
One thing is certain, I had no ambition to be a minister of the gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ after coming to faith in Him, The difficulties, discouragements and disappointments I saw my much loved elderly pastor go through, meant it was no ambition of mine. However, God's ways are not always our ways and I found myself called of God to a life preaching His word.
All believers in Christ should share the same ambition. Our ambition should be to more and more to live a life well pleasing to our Lord and Saviour. The apostle Paul in 2 Corinthians 5 v 9 makes clear his ambition is to please Christ, live a life acceptable to Him. What does Paul pray for the believers in Christ at Colossae, "That ye might walk worthy of the Lord unto all pleasing." (Colossians 1 v 10). Surely as believers in Christ our great ambition should be at the last to have Christ say, "Well done, thou good and faithful servant," (Matthew 25 v 21).
So, what is your ambition believer in Christ, in the light of all Christ has done for you?
