Mighty to Save

Mighty to Save

Isaiah 63 v 1

The obstacles in the way of the salvation of sinners against God are enormous. There is the justice of God whose good and holy laws we have all broken. Also, there are our own sinful hearts and minds which love to sin against God. There is as well the influence of the devil along with the pressure of the world. So, it is clear we need someone who is able to save and deliver us no matter all these things.

Christ Jesus is the only one who is able to save us despite all these obstacles, He is the one who is mighty to save us a sinner. Christ is able to save us from the penalty our sins deserve, as well as saving us increasingly from the power of sin in our lives, and ultimately from the very presence of sin when we are with Him in glory. It is because He is God the Son who took human flesh and without sin, suffered and died for sins, and rose again from the dead, that He has done all that is necessary to save sinners.

What is then necessary to be saved by Christ?

a) A conviction of our sinfulness and awareness of our need to be forgiven.

b) A realisation that Christ is the only one who is a mighty Saviour of sinners.

c) A rejection of any idea we can be or do anything to save us a sinner.

d) A total dependence on Christ and Christ alone to save us a sinner.

You need not therefore despair as a sinner against God because Christ's power to save you a sinner is matched by His willingness to save all who sincerely call upon Him to do so. How important then it is that you sincerely call upon the Lord Jesus, who is mighty to save, to save you a sinner. It isn't that there is nobody mighty to save you a sinner but that you will not trust in and follow the one that is mighty to save, the Lord Jesus Christ, which will result in you eternally perishing!
