"I will set my glory amongst the nations, and all the nations shall see my judgement that I have executed, and my hand that I have laid on them” (Ezekiel 39 v 21, ESV).

Every day we receive new figures of confirmed cases of COVID 19 virus in the different nations of the world, as well as the deaths from the virus. The World Health Organisation (WHO) cannot at this time accurately predict what the worldwide death rate from the virus will be. It certainly will be substantial, but will it reach some of the following figures:-

 

  1. In the first world war from 1914-18  on average 10 million died a year.
  2. In the second world war from 1939-45 on average 12 million died a year.
  3. In 2019 worldwide there were 43 million abortions. No that isn't a mistake or misprint, you read it correctly, staggeringly there were 43 million abortions worldwide last year.

 

In the Bible we see that ultimately it is God behind barrenness or conception (Gen 16v2, 1 Sam 1v 5,6, Ruth 4v13). The word of God upholds the dignity and worth of every human being, regardless of the state of development or physical dependency, from the moment of conception until natural death. God speaks of knowing the unborn when they are in the womb (Jeremiah 1v5).

Abortion often forgets the various stages of development after conception. It's 18-25 days after conception the baby's heart is already beating. At 8 weeks brain waves can be detected and fingerprints have already formed. By the 9th and 10th week the thyroid and adrenal glands are functioning, and the child can squint, swallow and move the tongue. By the 12-13th week they can suck their thumb and recoil from pain if pricked with a needle.

At 43 million abortions worldwide you could ask, is this God's judgement upon the world? We cannot say definitely it is or isn't, but in God's word He revealed such things often were. It's sadly ironic when the world desperately seeks to reduce the death rate from the virus, there are 43 million abortions and rarely to preserve the mother's life. Who can then say it isn't God judging!
