"Thou shalt have no other gods before me" (Exodus 20v3)
The first commandment sums up all the other commandments and laws God gave His people. When God comes first, which never will be the case until we come to faith in Christ Jesus, then certain things will follow:
- God first means we will worship God in the way He has revealed, not according to the views and ideas of man. (Ex. 20v4, 5).
- God first means we will speak of God in a right way, one that is pleasing to Him. (Ex 20v7).
- God first means we will seek to keep His day holy (Ex. 20v8-11).
- God first means we will respect and obey our parents in the way God requires (Ex. 20v12).
- God first means we will not physically murder someone, or verbally destroy their character (Ex. 20v13).
- God first means we will not physically or mentally behave immorally, contrary to God's word (Ex. 20v14).
- God first means we will not take from others what belongs to them (Ex. 20v15).
- God first means we will not lie but always speak the truth (Ex. 20v16).
- God first means we will not make " gods " out of wealth, material things, success and pleasure (Ex. 20v17).
I have deliberately repeated the words "God first" because we need to be reminded that is where God is to come in our lives. Jesus said, "Seek ye first the kingdom of God." So, is God first in your heart today?
