Draw near to God

Draw near to God

The ungodly world gives no thought to drawing near to God. It is preoccupied with family, money, material things, jobs and the pleasures of the world. Drawing near to God is the last thing in the minds of the ungodly world. However, because God is the greatest good and source of all good, it's good to draw near to God by faith in Christ Jesus. We are as sinners against God far, far from God. It will always be that way until we seek forgiveness of our sins and peace with God through the only Saviour, the Lord Jesus Christ.

Once that is the case, as a believer we need to continually draw near to God (Psalm 73 v 28). God is of course everywhere present and not far from any of us. The Christian life is one in which we are to draw near to God, having a real personal relationship with God. It should be a relationship which is growing and developing all the time. The encouraging thing is that as we draw near to God, He draws near to us. We really ought as believers be seeking a closer relationship with God all the time. It is such a blessing in sad, difficult days to have a close relationship with God.

How can we as believers draw nearer to God? The answer is by praising God, prayer and believing and obeying God's word. There also needs to be a confession of our sins to God, a cleansing of and turning from them (James 4 v 8). There is nothing better than as a believer in Christ to be drawing nearer to God, getting closer and closer to God.

"Nearer, my God to thee, nearer to thee!
E'en though it be a cross that raiseth me,
still all my song shall be,
nearer, my God, to thee;
nearer, my God, to thee, nearer to thee!"
