From the end of the earth will I cry unto thee, when my heart is overwhelmed: lead me to the rock that is higher than I

"From the end of the earth will I cry unto thee, when my heart is overwhelmed: lead me to the rock that is higher than I"

(Psalm 61 v 2)

There are times and situations in life when our hearts can be overwhelmed. When overwhelmed by an awareness of our sinfulness what can we do ? Wherever we are, "from the ends of the earth", we see in the above verse we can pray. Our prayer needs to be earnest and from the heart, "I cry unto Thee." Your prayer needs to be that God will be merciful to you a sinner in Christ, the Rock of ages. Do not think God will never forgive or accept you, in actual fact God is more willing to be merciful to you in Christ than you are to come to Christ. All who come to Christ He will in no wise cast out and that includes you!

When then as a believer in Christ your heart is overwhelmed, whatever the cause, you need to prayerfully cry to God wherever you are. Pray that that you may be led to the rock that is higher than you. A rock speaks of someone or something that can support us, that rock is Christ! The ways God has helped you a believer in Christ in the past, it's a great encouragement in the present to cry to Him again when your heart is overwhelmed. There is a song in a successful musical that surprisingly expresses a wonderful truth, "God on high hear my prayer, in my need You have always been there."

So if overwhelmed by sin, sickness, exams, the future, whatever it might be, earnestly cry to God wherever you are that you would be led to Christ who alone can save you a sinner and support you when your heart is overwhelmed by something.
