Good Advice from David

"Trust in the Lord, and do good; so shalt thou dwell in the land, and verily thou shalt be fed. Delight thyself also in the Lord: and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart. Commit thy way unto the Lord; trust also in him; and he shall bring it to pass."

Psalm 37:3-5

  1. Trust in the Lord and do good v3.

It is not ourselves or others we are to trust in because we will soon be disappointed if we do. It is the Lord the creator of all, the all wise God we need to trust in. However it is when we trust and obey we are truly happy in Jesus. We need to both trust in and conform our lives to God's word and so do good.

  1. Delight thyself in the Lord v 4.

The joy of all who come to faith in Christ is in God. We are told in Romans 5 v 11 " We joy in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom we have now received the atonement." Our joy doesn't depend on us being healthy, wealthy or successful ,we joy in an unchanging God as believers in Christ.

  1. Commit thy way unto the Lord v 5.

Our lives with all our concerns are to be committed to the Lord. It has the idea of literally rolling them on the Lord and trusting in in Him to act in the way that is best. So as God's children through faith in Christ Jesus we need to trust, delight in the Lord and commit our way to Him while doing good in obeying Him.
