The resurrection of the Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ is so important. The death and resurrection of Jesus are at the heart of the gospel. In 1 Corinthians 15 the apostle Paul mentions several eyewitnesses of this great event. Many of the witnesses had been slow to believe and were downhearted by Jesus death, but seeing Him risen their despondency disappeared. Paul says in verse 6 "He was seen of about five hundred brethren at once; of whom the greater part remain unto this present; but some are fallen asleep."
Five hundred witnesses is a large number. Some of them had died when Paul wrote this letter to the Corinthians. However, the majority were still alive and could bear testimony to having seen Jesus bodily risen from the dead.
Jesus knew He was to suffer and die; but He also knew that His body would not remain in the grave seeing corruption. He spoke beforehand of the fact He would rise again.
The wonderful thing for the believer in Christ is that Jesus resurrection shows He has made satisfaction for all their sins. His resurrection is also the cause, proof and guarantee of the glorious resurrection of all who believe on Him. How glorious it will be to in soul and body be together forever with Christ and all who have believed on Him. So, let's not be faithless but believing, because He lives, we shall live also.
Jesus lives! to Him the throne
Over the world is given;
May we go where He is gone,
Rest and reign with Him in heaven.
