“Unto thee lift I up mine eyes"
Psalm 123 v 1
Psalms 121 and 123 speak of how we should lift up our eyes to God. The angels in heaven lift up their eyes to God and cry aloud, "Holy, holy, holy is the Lord of Hosts."
- Believers in Christ, we are servants of God and therefore are looking to our Lord and Master. A master in those days had the responsibility to protect and provide for his servants. So, we as God's children lift up our eyes to God to spiritually protect and provide for us.
- God who we lift up our eyes to is merciful (Psalm 123 v 3). So as believers we are looking to God who in His mercy has already saved us, and who delights to be merciful to us.
- We have as believers in Christ to with persevering faith be looking to God until He has mercy upon us and helps us (verse 2).
So, we must look to God in heaven for whatever help we need. God does not disappoint the believer who humbly, sincerely, with faith looks to God for help. Their testimony is, "My help cometh from the Lord, which made heaven and earth" (Psalm 121 v 2).
"Unto the hills around do I lift up
My longing eyes,
O whence for me shall my salvation come!
From whence arise?
From God the Lord doth come my certain aid,
From God the Lord Who heaven and earth hath made."
